An extra feature to this event is that it will be two-thousand dollars to win, as Walhalla Building Center has added to the purse for what will be know as the Golden Hammer Classic. Last season, the NLRA held one event at Devils Lake, with Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, picking up the win on May 19th. The victory was, at the time, his 24th series victory, and fourth overall, but also his first at the Speedway since 2002. Two-time and defending NLRA champion Dustin Strand finished second in the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium SRT, with Shane Edginton rounding out the podium in the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory. Jim Harris was fourth in the Oilfield Maintenance & Repair No. 17, while Kevin Robertson rounded out the top five in the H. Anderson Concrete No. 10R. Devils Lake ran late models weekly last season, and it was Brody Troftgruben, driver of the No. 14 Gateway Auto Tech Rocket, that came away with the track championship in 2018. | Brody Troftgruben is the defending Devils Lake Champion. Devils Lake opened up their 2019 campaign last Saturday night, and it was former Wissota national champion Chad Becker securing the victory after a long back-and-forth battle with Cole Schill. Rapid City native Lyndon Bolt was second, and was followed by Schill in third. Dave Smith, driving the No. 06 Polar Industries Capital, and Brad Seng finished out the top five.
The series will have no fewer than four rookies following the 2019 campaign. Cole Babcock will drive the Casselton Lumber No. 2*, after running Limited Lates in 2018. Blake Anderson will take the reigns of the No. 9 Pro-Mark Services MB Custom from his father, long time NLRA regular Steve Anderson.
Ryan Kereluk will campaign the No. 29K Dirty Bodies by RJK Victory after many years as a top contender in the Modified division out of Winnipeg. Billy Vogel will also move over from Modifieds, as the former USMTS series regular will run the No. 4 EZ Open Garage Door Rocket XR1.
Saturday night's event will also feature the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Cars for their one and only visit to Devils Lake for 2019. Midwest Mods, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks will also be on the card, as the action is set to kick off at seven p.m. For more information on the event, you can check out our Tracks page, or visit the Devils Lake Speedway website by clicking the links given.
