The Series

Welcome,

The growth of stock car racing throughout the United States and our geographic area has been nothing less that phenomenal. With this growth comes new and exciting opportunities for race tracks, businesses, and interested individuals, to become actively involved in and with the Northern Late Model Racing Association. The NLRA is currently making plans for another great season of dirt Late Model stock car racing.

The NLRA is a group of professional Late Model drivers and owners who, in their mission statement, are: "Organized and Established for the Betterment and Advancement of Late Model and All Racing..." The NLRA was founded in 1998 by Late Model drivers in Northwest Minnesota, Northeast North Dakota, and Southern Manitoba, who are actively seeking tracks that would like to host the Late Model class of cars for special or weekly events; secure appropriate purses for their drivers/owners and develop a competitive point fund to reward those who join and participate with the NLRA. The NLRA is an organization that cares about making the sport of auto racing stronger for the many racers, fans, tracks, and businesses involved, now, and in the years to come.

We look forward to being a part of the auto racing future in your community. If there are any questions regarding any aspect of the Northern Late Model Racing Association, please don't hesitate to get in touch with one of our officers, of its' members.

We thank you for your interest in Late Model racing, and in the NLRA.

The Cars

NLRA Late Models are race cars that are purpose built for racing. The chassis (or skeleton) of the car is made from chromoly steel, an alloy of chromium and molybdenum. The engines in these race cars vary from car to car as drivers are allowed to run 362-410 cubic inch engines, or CT525 or GM604 crate engines. The cars can run either alcohol or race gas. The front of the cars feature independent suspensions for each wheel, with the rear end featuring a solid quick change axel. Once complete the cars weigh 2300-2500 pounds depending on which engine is used, and how much the driver weighs.

You can find out more about these cars in the Wissota Rule Book.

Point System

The NLRA follows the Wissota point system. Each driver receives points for showing up at a race, provided the driver takes a green flag at some point during the evening. The points earned varies depending on how many cars show up at the track. If one to nine cars show, ten points are earned by each driver. If ten to 15 cars are in attendance, eleven points go to each driver. If 16 or more cars are in the pits, twelve points are garnered by each competitor.

Points are no longer awarded for heat races or b mains. Each non-qualifier earning 45 points.

The feature winner earns 100 points, with second earning 95, third earning 91, with four less points per position until the sixth place finisher, then 78 for seventh with two less points per position until 20th. 21st earns 51, with each position that follows earning one less point.

Where the NLRA point system differs is the series doubles the nightly point total for their season long standings. (ex. if a driver wins the feature at a race where 16 or more cars raced, they would earn 112 points, which is then doubled for a grand total of 224 points. Each race counts towards the season points standings.
