NLRA Event Preview - Red River Co-Op and River Cities Speedway

The NLRA is set to head north to make it's lone appearance in Canada for the 2016 season on Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, before heading back south on Friday to once again share the spotlight with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.

On Thursday night, August the 25th, the NLRA makes its' 26th appearance at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for the third annual Can-Am Late Model Challenge.

NLRA Event Preview - Greenbush Race Park

On Saturday night, July the 30th, the NLRA will take the track for the second and final time in 2016, and 24th time overall, at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN. The series is also scheduled to make their second of now three away-from-River Cities appearances with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association.

Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, lead all 25 laps en route to winning his first NLRA series feature on June 18th. Cole became the third Schill to win in Greenbush, as his father Howie won two races in a row in Greenbush in 2007 and again in 2008. Cole's uncle Troy won the series second appearance in Greenbush in July of 1999.

NLRA Event Preview - Devils Lake Speedway

On Saturday night, July the 23rd, the NLRA will head west for the 18th time in series history to the Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND. The track hosted two series events last season, and is scheduled to do so again this season.

Last season, Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom and Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium split the season series in Devils Lake last season.

After running the seasons first seven races in a span of 14 days, the NLRA schedule is on a bit of a hiatus, but that doesn't mean its' series regulars have taken any time off.

Last Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, won the feature in his first appearance at the speedway in 2016. Current speedway point leader Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, finished second to Strand, while Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory finished fourth, and sits four points back of Balcaen for the point lead.

NLRA Series Review - Four Race Stretch Part Two

The NLRA series continued its' four race stretch with a return to the Red River Valley Speedway, where Cole Schill, Driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, picked up a popular home victory, his second in less than a week. The stretch wrapped up at River Cities on Saturday night, where Don Shaw won his first late model feature at he speedway since 1999.

Schill and Allen Kent, in his K&K Racing No. 33, lead the field to the green, with Schill leading into one. The pair was followed by Shane Edginton, Matt Aukland and Mike Balcaen. Schill lead lap one by a nose, as he and Kent were even, one again, into turn one, as Aukland peeked inside of Edginton in turn two.

Balcaen and Schill Split NLRA Weekend

Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, and Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, split the NLRA double header weekend with Balcaen winning at River Cities, and Schill scoring at the Greenbush Race Park.

Balcaen's win is his 23rd series victory, third best on the all-time list, while Schill's win is his first NLRA series triumph, the 51st driver on series history to win a feature. Both drivers lead from flag-to-flag en route to their victories. Schill is also the second new winner in as many weeks, as Zach Naastad won his first NLRA series feature in June 11th at the Jamestown Speedway.

Zach Naastad Wins First NLRA Feature In Jamestown

Zach Naastad, driver of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. Z17, won the NLRA season opener at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND Saturday night. Naastad became the 50th different driver to win an NLRA series feature, and is the second first time series winner in a row, as AJ Diemel won last September's 'Prelude to the Johnny' at the River Cities Speedway. Naastad's win didn't come easy, as he had to defend his lead on a number of restarts, and regain the lead on other restarts, as multiple caution periods, three of which were multi-car pileups, that plagued the main event.

Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, won his first race of the year at River Cities Speedway last Friday night. Mike Balcaen, winner at the Speedway two weeks prior crossed the line second in the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, with Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory rounding out the podium in third. Steffen Snare, driver of the No. 71 Todd's Electric Bloomquist finished fourth in his season debut, while two-time track champion Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom rounded out the top five.

2016 Season Roars To Life For NLRA Regulars

The River Cities Speedway roared to life in a big way Friday night. 16 late models began their 2016 campaigns at the River Cities Speedway test and tune night. As the night went on, the moisture under the track worked its way to the surface, creating very fast conditions, with the cushion ascending no further than the middle of the track for the duration of the night.

Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, set a new track record for late models, with a time of 11.584 seconds. Seng then lowered that mark to 11.514 seconds, at just under 94 mph for an average speed.
