Ricky Weiss lead for 24 laps and through the final four corners, but Dustin Strand took the lead on the front stretch, and lead for about the final 30 feet, winning his second NLRA series feature of the season Saturday night at the Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. The win is also Strand's fifth NLRA series triumph, tying him with a pair of all-time greats, Joel Cryderman and Tom Corcoran. The margin of victory was .048 of a second. Brad Seng finished third, with Bill Mooney and Dusty Peterson rounding out the top five. Strand also ate into Mike Balcaen's lead in the NLRA series standings, as the pair will head into next weekends' labor day double header at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN separated by just 14 points. This Saturday night, August the 29th, the NLRA makes its' second and final appearance this season, and 17th overall, at the Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. This race was postponed due to rain last Saturday, but the series schedule included this Saturday as a rain date when the schedule was made in the off season. During the series previous visit to Devils Lake on July 18, Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, lead the first ten laps before relinquishing the lead to Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Black Diamond, in lapped traffic on lap eleven.
A pair of canadian drivers were winners of the two NLRA series races contested last week, as Mike Balcaen of Winnipeg, MB won at the Red River Co-Op Speedway on Thursday night, and Bill Mooney of Selkirk, MB won at the River Cities Speedway on Friday night.
Mike Balcaen, the NLRA series point leader and driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Black Diamond, lead flag-to-flag for his first NLRA series victory of the season, and 22nd of his NLRA career, third best on the series' all-time wins list.

Bill Mooney, driving the OMG Candy No. 2, lead flag-to-flag, winning his third career NLRA series feature Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. Mooney started on the pole, and held off Ricky Weiss and Dustin Strand, despite a number of restarts late in the 25 lapper. Weiss finished second, with Mike Balcaen, Donny Schatz, and Joey Pederson rounding out the top five. Balcaen again increased his lead in the NLRA series point standings, as he heads into Saturday nights' race at the Devils Lake Speedway with a 22 point edge over Dustin Strand. Mike Balcaen lead flag-to-flag for his first NLRA series victory of the season Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Balcaen's win is also the 22nd of his NLRA career, third best on the series' all-time wins list. Ricky Weiss finished second, with Dustin Strand, Cole Schill, and Brad Seng rounding out the top five. The NLRA season continues after a nearly three week break, as the series makes a trio of return visits this weekend, starting on Thursday night, August the 20th, for the Can-Am Late Model Challenge at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, continuing on Friday night, August the 21st, at the River Cities Speedway alongside the World of Outlaws sprint car series, then ending on Saturday night, August the 22nd, at the Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND.
Ricky Weiss won at the River Cities Speedway last Friday night, with Brad Seng, in the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, Dustin Strand, in the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. 71, Joey Pederson, in the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom, and Steve Anderson, in the No. 9 Hi-Per-Flex Panel Systems Pierce rounding out the top five.
Don Shaw won at the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls last Friday night, with Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Rivinius Ranch MasterSbilt by JMR continuing a strong season in second.
NLRA series action continues this Saturday night, August the 8th, with a trip to Minnesota's iron range, as the series will head east to take on the Hibbing Raceway and its' own stout contingent of late model racers, for just the fourth time in series history. Dustin Strand, driver of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. 71, will try to carry his momentum into Hibbing, after coming off a win at the Jamestown Speedway last Saturday night. Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Black Diamond, will try to hold the point lead that he has held since the NLRA series debut at the I-94 Speedway in June. Balcaen will head into Hibbing with only eight points separating himself and Strand atop the series standings. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom will head into Hibbing as the defending winner of the NLRA event in Hibbing, and will be only 22 points back of Balcaen for the series lead.
A pair of drivers broke winless streaks last week as Don Shaw won at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, and Dustin Strand won at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND. Shaw, driving his Shaw Trucking No. 42S, won is his second NLRA series feature, his first since June 17, 1999 at the River Cities Speedway. A pair of Bloomquist chassis shared the front row at the start, as Steffen Snare, in the High Mark Snowmobile Rentals No. 71S, and Ricky Weiss in the Derrick's Sandblasting No. 7, lead the field to the green, with Weiss taking the point as the green flag flew. Snare completed a slide job on Cody Skytland for second at the end of the first lap, allowing Weiss to pull away, and Shaw to take second from both of Snare and Skytland's No. 75 Langdon Implement MasterSbuilt by JMR.
