Zach Johnson, driver of the No. 73 Midwest Grain Systems Pierce lead all 44 laps of the inaugural '4444' race at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The win was his fourth with the series in 2013, and his 11th overall, giving him sole possession of the fifth spot on the all time wins list with the NLRA. Heavy rain that claimed the opening night of NLRA series action at the speedway the night before made racing conditions difficult for the drivers, with only 12 finishing the race, and only ten completing all 44 laps of the main event.
Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71S Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium was second, Viking regulars Eric Breeschoten and Jeff Wildung finished third and fourth respectively, while Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom rounded out the top five. Wisconsin natives Adam Hensel and Chad Mahder finished sixth and seventh. B Main winner Lance Matthees finished eighth after starting 17th. Casey Meyer of Wahpeton, ND finished ninth, and Norm Olson, driver of the No. 29 BM Transport MasterSbuilt picked up his second career hard charger award with the NLRA, finishing tenth after starting 24th. Seng, Strand, Johsnon, Breeschoten, Johnson, Strand, and Seng were heat winners. 31 cars were in attendance, the third most for any series race this season, behind the events in Hibbing on June 29 and Jamestown on August 10.

The NLRA season concludes Thursday night, September the 5th, with the third annual 'Prelude to the Johnny' at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. Racing begins at 7pm.
Mooney Wins at River Cities; Balcaen Wins His 206th in Winnipeg
NLRA regulars Mike Balcaen and Bill Mooney were winners before the NLRA action last weekend. Balcaen's victory was his second of the year in Winnipeg, fourth this season overall, and the 206th of his 30 year racing career. Both of Balcaen's wins in Winnipeg have come from the eighth starting spot. Bill Mooney won his second feature of the year, and first of his career in a Late Model at the River Cities Speedway. Mooney survived a couple of harrowing episodes during the race, first coming up on two lapped cars racing side-by-side with eight laps to go, passing both with six to go. While coming to the white flag, he and Troy Schill made contact in turn three causing both cars to spin. Mooney regained the lead, and lead the final two laps, hold off Mike Balcaen and Joey Pederson for the win.
