A pair of Rocket XR1's led the field to green as Laela Eisenschenk lined up on the pole in the Schatz Crossroads No. 15 with Jason Strand on the outside in the North Dakota Corn Council No. E85. Eisenschenk took the lead in the first set of turns and went on to make history, becoming the first female driver to lead a lap in series history. Dustin Strand took the lead in the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Longhorn on the second lap and led through a pair of cautions and then a red flag for Eisenschenk on lap six when she rolled a number of times on a restart. Edginton kept Strand behind him on the final restart with 12 laps left and continued to hold the point at traffic became an issue in the closing laps.
Dustin Strand wins the race by .049 over Shane Edginton | Strand was back on Edginton's spoiler with three to go then on the final lap made the diamond off turns three and for to drag race Edginton back to the line to win the race by .049 seconds. “I tell you Shane's about one of the best in the business on the bottom,” Strand said in victory lane post-race. “I wanted to stay up high because it was a little smoother but he was so good around the bottom once we'd get into about a six to eight lap run. I started reeling him in a little bit but that was definitely his race and a lapped car kind of screwed him up and we were able to capitalize on it. That must’ve been pretty close at the line there.” |
Pederson's night ended as his No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors Rocket XR1 became involved in the red for Eisenschenk. John Seng appeared to have lost a power plant after winning the final heat in the No. 21S TRENDLess Designs MB Custom. 27 cars signed in for action at River Cities on Friday night.
The series heads to West Fargo, ND next with the first of three visits to Red River Valley Speedway on Friday night June 14th.
