Ricky Weiss in the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist, won his fifth NLRA series feature of the season Saturday night at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN, the 18th series win of his career. Weiss and Dustin Strand, driver of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. 71, shared the front row at the start, with Strand winning the drag race to turn one at the start. Strand lead the first five laps, before Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom took advantage of a lap six restart to pass Ricky Weiss for second, and start reeling in Strand for the lead, which he took on lap nine.
Seng, much like what happened to him at Devils Lake on July 18th when Seng lost the lead in heavy traffic, the same happened here when Seng made contact with a lapped car, got loose, and ran briefly into the infield, allowing Weiss to take the point. Unlike Devils Lake, however, Seng was unable to regain the lead, with Ricky Weiss leading the remainder of the race.
Seng finished second, with Dustin Strand third, Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Black Diamond fourth, and Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 OMG Candy MasterSbuilt by JMR, rounding out the top five. Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom finished sixth, with Tom Corcoran, driver of the No. T1 D&B Motors Rocket seventh, Brian Strand, driver of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. 71B eighth, Steve Anderson, driver of the No. 9 Hi-Per-Flex Panel Systems Pierce ninth, and Dusty Peterson, driver of the Precision Lawn Car & Landscape No. 1 rounding out the top ten. Strand, Weiss, Mooney won the heats, 18 cars were in attendance. NLRA series action continues this Thursday night, July the 30th at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, and Saturday night at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND.
Heading into the weekend, Mike Balcaen leads the NLRA point standings with an eight point advantage over Dustin Strand. Brad Seng sits in the third spot, just 24 points behind Balcaen, while Steffen Snare, driver of the No. 71S High Mark Snomobile Rentals Bloomquist, and Ricky Weiss round out the top five. Steve Anderson is in the sixth spot, with Jeff Hapala, driver of the No. 16S Auto Solutions Rocket in seventh, Bill Mooney eighth, Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Rivinius Ranch MasterSbuilt by JMR ninth, and Norm Olson, driver of the No. 29 Disabled American Veterans MasterSbilt rounding out the top ten.
