The Northern Late Model Racing Association has rescheduled their only appearance this season to the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN for this Saturday night, July the 12th. The series was originally scheduled to race in Greenbush on June 14th, but the race was cancelled due to rain. This race is to be the series return, and the 21st appearance overall to Greenbush after nearly three years away from the three-eighths mile dirt oval. The track which originally opened in 1991, remained closed throughout the 2012 season. But weekly racing did return to Greenbush last season. The tracks' long straightaways and tight corners produce some of the closest racing on the NLRA calendar. Racing starts at 7pm Saturday night.
Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Victory Circle, was Greenbush's first late model track champion in 1991, and has since added two NLRA series victories to his resume at the track. Tom Corcoran, driver of the No. T1 D&B Motors Rocket, is the only other series regular to have multiple NLRA wins under his belt in Greenbush, as he also has two wins to his credit. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom, is the only other current series regular with a victory in Greenbush, with one win coming back in the 2002 season. Joey Pederson is the most recent winner at Greenbush as he picked up the victory during the series last visit to the speedway in August of 2011. The hard chargers during the 2011 event were Greg Ferris and Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lithia Toyota/Pizza Ranch Rocket. Both drivers passed eight cars to round out the top five with fourth and fifth place finishes respectively.
The June 14th event at Greenbush was not the only NLRA event lost to rain that weekend. The series was also scheduled to race at the Buffalo River Race Park near Glyndon, MN on June 15th. The NLRA is currently in talks with officials of the Glyndon track about a make-up date for that event.
Brad Seng heads heads into the Greenbush event as the NLRA point leader, with a 36 point edge over 2011 series champion Ricky Weiss. Pat Doar sits in the third spot, while Mike Balcaen and Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71S Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium round out the top five. Shane Edginton in the Avonlea Group 5E holds the sixth spot, with five time World of Outlaws sprint car champion Donny Schatz in seventh. Dave Smith, in the No. 06 Mobil 1 Capital is eighth, with Bill Mooney and Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Rivinius Ranch Rocket rounding out the top ten.
