Last season at Viking, Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MB Custom, was victorious on night one of the double, as he held off Don Shaw for the win. Shaw came back one night later to score the win on night two, parking the No. 42S Shaw Trucking Victory in victory lane. Schill's win was his third NLRA series win, while Shaw's triumph was his tenth, as he is now one of just ten drivers to reach that mark after Donny Schatz eclipsed the ten win plateau on August 16th at River Cities. Shaw is also the only driver to have a win at the speedway this season, as the speedway no longer has weekly competition in the Late Model division. Shaw's win came on July 13th, as he bested Schill, once again, for the victory. Other than Schill, two other series regulars scored a top ten each of the two nights last season, as Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, and fellow Winnipeg native Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory, each had solid weekends. Balcaen scored a second and a third, while Edginton completed the weekend with two sixth place runs at last years double. | Dustin Strand was the winner at Greenbush last Saturday, and is now just twenty points back of the series lead. Shane Edginton took the point lead back for the third time this season, as his second place run to Strand, combined with Brad Seng's sixth place run in the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, puts Edginton eight points ahead of Seng, while Seng is twelve up on Strand with three races to go.
Seng was the point leader heading into Greenbush, as each of the last four races have seen a different member of the lead trio lead heading into that nights event. Edginton left the Nodak Speedway in Minot with the lead on August 4th, while Strand left River Cities with the lead on August 16th. Seng left the Sheyenne Speedway with the lead two nights later on August 18th.
With his win last season at Viking, Cole Schill made it three active series regulars to score a win at Viking. Brad Seng has four wins at the half-mile, while Mike Balcaen is the other, as he has one win, that coming back in 2004.
Behind the lead trio in the standings, Mike Balcaen is fourth, while Brody Troftgruben rounds out the top five in the No. 14 Byron Farms Rocket.
Jesse Teunis is sixth with the No. 70 Grand Prix Amusements MasterSbilt, with Ryan Kereluk seventh with the No. 29K Edison Electrical Services Victory, and Ryan Corbett eighth with the No. C4 Jess Rice Crary Realty MasterSbilt.
Tom Corcoran, driver of the No. T1 Greg's Lawn Care MB Custom, and Cole Babcock, driver of the No. 2* Casselton Lumber Pierce, round out the current top ten.
Racing begins at six on both nights at Viking. For more information, check out our Tracks page, or visit vikingspeedway.myracepass.com.
