The upper-midwest's two premier racing series co-headlined events at the Red River Valley Speedway on July 17, and the Greenbush Race Park on July 30. This will be the first time in the 16 year history of the Devils Lake Speedway, which started out as the SAAGA International Speedway in 2000, that Late Models and Sprint Cars have raced on the same night at the track.
On July 23rd in Devils Lake, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, became the second driver this season to win two NLRA features in six days, as Strand's first win in the six day time period came at the Red River Valley Speedway on July 17th.
Strand matched Cole Schill's mark, as Schill, driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, won on June 18th in Greenbush and June 24th in West Fargo. Intermittent rain showers in the morning and early afternoon, closed what is normally the pit area off of turns one and two, as they moved to the grass behind the grandstand. The rain also caused the races to be delayed by one hour. As Strand was near victory, a trio of Manitoba racers battled three-wide for fourth in lapped traffic with two to go, as 2013 Devils Lake winner Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Winnipeg Hearing Centres MasterSbilt, dove to the inside of Shane Edginton, in the No. 4 General Signs Victory by Moyer, and Mike Balcaen in the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, in turn one on the final lap, securing the second spot. |
