The series took to the high-banked quarter-mile bullring on the Greater Grand Forks Fairgrounds two weeks ago, as the series co-headlined with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series for the first of three times for the 2018 season. It was two-time and defending series champion Ricky Weiss who parked the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist in victory lane. Weiss fended off charges by late charging Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Generations Spa & Salon Millenium SRT, who will be coming fresh off his 15th series victory, which came at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN last Saturday night. Another pair of drivers had chances to take the top spot two weeks ago included Bill Mooney, driver of the Lithia Toyota of Grand Forks No. 2 and Travis Robertson, driver of the The Bowler No. 1R. The duo, and their pair of MasterSbilts by JMR, went three wide with Weiss for the lead at one point during the twenty-five lap main event. Weiss continued on, despite a few late cautions, for his 22nd NLRA series victory. | Related |
Strand became the second repeat winner this season at the speedway last Friday night, one of his three victories last week. His other win came in Modified competition at the Red River Co-op Speedway last Thursday night. He also won at River Cities on June 1st.
Ricky Weiss, the speedway's other repeat winner in 2018, scored the win on opening night, while Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Channel Seed Victory, was the winner on May 25th.
Strand holds the point lead in the speedway point standings, as he has a slim three point advantage over Mike Balcaen. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S Schill Construction MB Custom, is third, with Ryan Corbett, driver of the No. C4 Corbett Trucking MasterSbilt, in fourth. Bill Mooney rounds out the top five.
Strand also leads in the NLRA season point standings, holding a 46 point lead over Balcaen, once again. Seng is third in the NLRA standings, as well, while Mooney holds the fourth spot, and Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory, rounds out the top five.
Devils Lake Speedway point leader Brody Troftgruben, driver of the No. 14 Kaz Brothers Construction Rocket, is sixth, with Corbett seventh, and rookie Jesse Teunis, driver of the Grand Prix Amusements No. 70 sitting in the eighth spot.
Inaugural series champion Troy Schill, driver of the No. 11 Forks Finest Auto Body & Wash MasterSbilt, and Ricky Weiss round out the top ten.
