Another big week lies ahead during this 20th anniversary season for the NLRA and it's series regulars, as the series will run three races in as many days, with races at the Red River Co-op, River Cities, and Devils Lake Speedways.
On Thursday night, the series will make it's lone appearance at the Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada for the fourth annual Can-Am Late Model Challenge. The race features a face-off between the top drivers from Team Canada and Team U.S.A. Team Canada has won the previous three runnings of the event, but Team U.S.A. will have some re-reinforcements by way of the now ten-time Knoxville Nationals champion Donny Schatz, driver of the No. 15 Fargo Petro Rocket.

Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing Millenium, won over Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lithia Toyota MasterSbilt by JMR, at last years challenge. Mike Balcaen was third in the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, with Cole Schill charging from 13th to fourth in the No. 44 Rivinius Ranch MasterSbilt by JMR, and Brad Seng rounding out the top five in the No 12S S&S Transport MB Custom.

Ricky Weiss, driver of the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist, leads all drivers with five wins in weekly competition at the speedway this season. Mike Balcaen won the opener on May 25. Rick Fawcett won his first Late Model feature on June 1. Dustin Strand won on June 8, and Bill Mooney won on June 29.

Mike Balcaen will head into Thursday night with a five point lead over Bill Mooney in the weekly standings at the speedway. Kevin Sexton is third, 14 markers back of the top spot. Rick Fawcett and Shane Holden round out the top five.

On Friday night, the series will co-headline for the second time this season at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series. Dustin Strand won both ends of what turned into a double header on June 30, as the series made up the feature that was rained out during the Outlaws first visit on June 16.

Dustin Strand leads all drivers with six wins in weekly competition at River Cities this season. Bill Mooney and Brad Seng have two wins each. Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom, broke a nearly two-year drought with his win on May 19. Zach Naastad, driver of the No. Z17 Q&Z Plumbing Millenium, won his first at River Cities on June 9, nearly one year to the day since his first win at the Jamestown Speedway.

Strand will be the point leader at River Cities when action resumes this Friday night. Strand holds a 21 point lead over Joey Pederson. Balcaen, Mooney, and Seng round out the top five.

Finally, the series will finish it's three-race swing at the Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. Ricky Weiss won the series last visit to Devils Lake on July 22. Weiss held off Dustin Strand by .076 at the line in a rematch of their previous photo finish at the track. Weiss the first 24 laps during the series visit to Devils Lake in August 2015. Strand beat Weiss back to the line by .048 that night for the win. Strand had won three of four heading into Devils Lake in July.

Cole Schill was third on July 22 over two-time Devils Lake runner-up in 2016, and August 2013 winner, Bill Mooney. Minot's Robert Hellebust rounded out the top five.

2011 series champion Ricky Weiss will take a 46 point lead in the NLRA series standings into the weekend over two-time series champ Dustin Strand. Defending series champion Brad Seng is third, with Bill Mooney, and Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Kennedy Flooring Victory, rounding out the top five.

Five-time series champion Mike Balcaen is sixth in the current standings, with Steve Anderson, driver of the No. 9 Big Trucks by Jimco MB Custom in seventh, Tom Corcoran, driver of the No. T1 Greg's Lawn Care MB Custom in eighth, rookie Travis Robertson, driver of the No. 1R IRET Properties MasterSbilt in ninth, and Jeff Hapala, driver of the No. 16S City Parcel Delivery MasterSbilt by JMR, rounding out the top ten.

Something wrong in that article.. it states that the last 3 runnings of the CanAm event was won by team Canada.. yet later in the same article states that Dustin Strand won last years event over Bill Mooney ???

Hi Jim,

I Should have put in the article that how the event works is, I believe 4 American drivers, and 4 Canadian drivers race for points, and the team that scores more points wins. So even thought Dustin won the race, the Canadian team scored more points.

Thanks
