Cole Schill and Joey Pederson sat on the front row of Friday night’s feature at River Cities with Schill leading the opening lap in the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MB Custom. Schill opened up a straightaway lead early as Ryan Corbett, driver of the Corbett Trucking No. 50 moved in on Pederson’s No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors Rocket XR1 for second before the first caution of the race slowed the pace on lap four. Corbett took second from Peterson on the ensuing restart with three-time series champion Mike Greseth, driving his No. 17 Quality Engines Rocket XR1, moving in on Pederson in a battle for third before another pair of cautions on lap seven. |
Just before the midway point, Tyler Peterson and Greseth made it past Pederson to complete positions three through five while Cole Schill and Ryan Corbett began to work lap traffic.
Heavy lap traffic allowed Corbett to show his nose on Schill with Peterson reeling in both to make it a three-car battle for the lead with ten to go.
Five circuits later, you could have thrown the proverbial blanket over the top three cars as Tyler Peterson made his way around both Corbett, and then Schill to take the lead. Schill didn't go without a fight, however, as the pair remained side by side, nearly splitting a lap car with three to go.
The final caution of the race set up a green-white-checkered finish. Though Peterson went unchallenged in the final pair of laps to pick up the victory over Corbett, Schill, Greseth, and Pederson.
“Our team man, we hound. We don't follow lap cars,” Peterson said in victory lane. “It doesn't matter the situation… well sometimes if it's rubber you follow them, but besides that, lapped cars are such a speed killer. Leave it to River Cities… I love this place. We definitely had to work for that one. I hope the fans enjoyed that because I was giving her my all there. I had nothing left in the tank.”
On Saturday night at I-94 emr Speedway, defending King of the Dirt winner Brad Seng and I-94. regular Dave Mass brought the field to green to start the 30-lap Dick Johanneck Memorial main event. Mass took the point early and brought teammate Don Shaw with him in a second as Tyler Peterson moved in on Brad Seng’s No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom for third.
Mass continued to lead following the first caution on lap four as Seng took third back and raced Shaw again for second. Mass and Shaw pulled away from the rest of the top five, however, leaving Peterson and Seng to battle for the third spot.
It remained Mass, Shaw, and Seng through ten laps until Mass brought out the second yellow flag of the race when his left front failed him giving Shaw the lead for the restart.
Peterson took second on the restart and immediately moved to the inside of Shaw in a bid for the lead which he took coming off a turn four. The pair made a little bit of contact in turn two on the following lap, but it was Peterson who led before the final caution just before the midway point.
Peterson led the field back to green, but the big mover on this restart was Dustin Strand who went three-wide in his No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Longhorn with Seng and Shaw coming off of turn four to take second.
Behind them Cole Schill and Shane Edginton, driver of the General Signs No. 5E, went three wide with Seng in a battle for fourth as jockeying for position continued at I-94. The leaders worked lapped traffic with ten to go but the top three remained the same for the duration of the race as Peterson went on to sweep the weekend over Strand, Shaw, Edginton and Schill.
It's awesome. We've had the car for quite a while now to {win the King of the Dirt.] It's definitely been on my list,” Peterson said about winning King of the Dirt. “I'm super excited to get this one for my team. The racetrack was pretty good. It started latching up at the end, but these big tire cars do that. I just had to get to the lead before it did and we got lucky and found the bottom on that restart and got by Shaw and it was smooth sailing from there.”
