With the Wissota season coming to a close last weekend, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, wrapped up his first Wissota Late Model national championship. Strand won by a 42 point margin over Don Shaw and Scott Ward.
Twenty victories in 45 races helped Strand secure the title. Strand's eight victories at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, seven at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, along with a record tying seven in a season with the NLRA, capped off by a second straight win at the Jamestown Stampede last weekend.
This marks the fourth national title for Strand Racing. Brian Strand won back-to-back Modified titles in 1997 and 1998. Dustin won the Midwest Modified title in 2009. Dustin finished second in the 2013 Late Model championship to Zach Johnson.
This is also the fifth time in seven seasons that an NLRA regular has won the national title. Ricky Weiss won the other four titles (2010, 2011, 2014, 2015).
