The NLRA's 16th season of racing is underway after two big nights of racing this past weekend at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. On Saturday night Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wi started on the pole and never looked back leading all 25 laps of the main event. The win was his 5th NLRA series victory. Doar crossed the finish line a second and a half ahead of second place finisher Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71S Q&Z Plumbing & Heating machine. The third, fourth, and fifth place finishers had their work cut out for them as none of the three started in the top 10.
Zach Johnson of Kensington, MN took home third place after starting 15th. Fourth place finisher Eric Breeschoten of Buffalo, MN brought his No. 66 entry from the outside of row six, while Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom was the races' hard charger coming from the 18th starting position to finish 5th. Finishing sixth through tenth were Mike Balcaen in the No. 10 Northstar Canada, Victory Circle, Viking regular Jeff Wildung of Nassau, MN, Bill Mooney in the No. 2 Freehearingtest.ca Rocket, Steve Anderson in his No. 9 Hi-Per Flex Panel Systems entry, and Troy Schill in the No. 11 Forks Finest Auto Body Victory Circle. Heat wins went to Doar, Strand, and Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Master Transmission Rocket.

Johnson's victory was his 8th NLRA series victory, moving him to 7th place on the all time wins list. Jeff Wildung came home third, while Brad Seng, and Eric Breeschoten collected their second top fives of the weekend by finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Finishing sixth through tenth were Dustin Strand, Lance Matthees of Winona, MN, Mike Balcaen, Joey Pederson in his No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors Mars MB Custom, and Rick Nelson, who was also the races' hard charger by moving up six spots.
