Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Winnipeg Hearing Centres MasterSbilt, won his first race of the season last Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. The win was his sixth in late model action at the speedway, as he fended off charges from two-time and defending NLRA series champion, and defending River Cities champion Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Longhorn. Mooney became the fourth different winner in four nights in what is arguably the most competitive class at the three-tenths mile oval on the Grand Forks county Fairgrounds, that will host five NLRA series races this season. The first NLRA race at River Cities is two weeks from this Friday night when the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series hits town for the first of two scheduled visits.

Ricky Weiss, driver of the A.I.E. communications No. 7, finished third, as he returned home for a brief visit which may include one more week in this area before he returns to Tennessee to work with Vic Hill. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, improved from ninth to finish fourth, while I-94 Speedway regular Dusty Peterson, driving the Precision Lawn Care No. 1, used a night off from action at Fergus Falls to round out the top five. Peterson went on to finish second to Scott Ward at the Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD on Sunday night. Kevin Robertson, driver of the No. 10 H. Anderson Concrete MasterSbilt, finished eighth in the stout field 23 car field at the Casino Sunday night.

Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory, finished sixth, with fellow Canadian Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, finishing seventh. Steffen Snare, driver of the No. 71 Todd's Electric Bloomquist finished eighth, with another I-94 regular, Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, running ninth. Zach Naastad, driver of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. Z17 rounded out the top ten. Strand, Mooney, and Balcaen were the heat winners. Twenty late models were in attendance.
Action at the both the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, and the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN were washed out last Saturday night.. The season opener at the Red River Co-Op Speedway is now scheduled for this Thursday night, while River Cities and the I-94 Speedways return to action on Friday night. The Viking Speedway races again on Saturday, as they are scheduled to run their Wissota Race of Champions qualifier, with the winner earning a spot in the special Race of Champions event at the Wissota 100 at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD in September. The 2016 NLRA season starts in just over ten days at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND.
