The fourth running of "The Howie" honors Howie Schill, who passed away late in 2020. Schill turned many laps with John Seitz up until Seitz's passing early in 2007. The moving of "The Howie" to River Cities will be the second time a Schill will be honored at River Cities this season after Howie's dad Harold, Sr. was inducted in the Speedway Hall of Fame on August 2nd.
Three-time series champion Mike Greseth has won "The Howie" twice (the first and third,) with Don Shaw winning the second running in 2023, all of which were held at Red River Valley Speedway.
Dustin Strand heads into the weekend as the series point leader in the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Longhorn by 54 over Howie's son Cole Schill. Schill won the I-94 points title last Friday as Strand won the River Cities title. Strand also won his 17th Late Model feature of the season last Sunday night at Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN.
The NLRA has crowned their series champion on the Thursday night of "The Seitz" since 2011. Only six times has a series regular won the event with Dustin Strand and then series regular Ricky Weiss each winning "The Prelude" twice. Brad Seng and Lance Schill are the other locals to defend home turf against the perennial influx of talent this event has boasted for the past 17 runnings.
Brody Troftgruben heads into the final points night third in the standings in his No. 14 Gateway Auto Tech Longhorn with Brad Seng fourth in the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom and Shane Edginton rounding out the top five in the Red River Messenger/Courier No. 5E.
Brandon Corbett is sixth in the Acres & Shares No. C4 with John Seng seventh in the No. 21S TRENDLess Designs MB Custom and Cole Babcock eighth in the No. 2* Wicked Wraps & Fab Rocket XR1. Tyler Peterson in the No. 1TPO QuickLift Rocket XR1 and Rusty Kollman and his No, 2RK Carrington Drug MB Custom complete the current top ten.
