His son Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44* Mid Ag Dispatch MB Custom, will head into the weekend just 54 points back of the series point lead and is the co-point leader at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls. Howie's father Harold was inducted into the River Cities Speedway Hall of Fame two weeks ago.
Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing and Heating Longhorn, heads into the weekend as the series point leader and is the most recent winner at Red River Valley, winning the series first visit of 2024 on June 14th. Don Shaw was second in June and was followed home in the top five by Travis Robertson, Lee Grosz, and Cole Schill.
Three-time series champion Mike Greseth won last season's Schill Memorial over veterans Mitch Johnson and Mike Balcaen. Greseth won the first Schill Memorial in 2021 with Don Shaw winning the second running in 2022.
This year's two-day Howie Schill Memorial will see the winner's share go up from $1,250 on Friday night to $2,404 on Saturday. Start money will also increase from $250 on Friday to $444 on Saturday night.
Dustin Strand's win at RRVS in June made him the winningest driver in series history at the track winning the third of his career there. Mike Greseth's two Schill Memorial has him in a tie for second with Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, though his first win was in the series debut at the Fairgrounds at the old half-mile in 2009.
Following Strand and Schill in the series points with three races remaining are Brody Troftgruben and his No. 14 Lundquist Custom Longhorn, Brad Seng, and Shane Edginton, who rounds out the top five in the Red River Messenger/Courier No. 5E.
Racing begins at seven both nights. For more information, visit redrivervalleyspeedway.com
