For the ninth time in series history, the NLRA will spend its' Labor Day weekend at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The regulars of the NLRA series will take on the 51-year-old half-mile oval on the Douglas County Fairgrounds for the 38th time in series history.

Two-time and defending NLRA series champion Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, picked up his first series win of the season Sunday evening at the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND.
The win was Strand's sixth career series triumph, which puts him in a tie for eleventh on the NLRA series all-time wins list, as he joins Dale Skytland, Kevin Sexton, and Pat Doar. Strand also became the first driver to win multiple NLRA features at the speedway.
On Sunday night, July the 17th, the NLRA will co-headline closing night festivities at the Red River Valley Fair with the NOSA Sprint Cars. This event marks just the fourth time the areas two premier racing series have shared an event at a speedway other than the River Cities Speedway, and first since June 10th, 2007.
Jeremy Keller and Jason Linnell were winners in 2007 at the Nodak Speedway in Minot, ND. The Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN hosted the other two in 1998 and 2001. This is also scheduled to be the ninth appearance by the NLRA on the Red River Valley Fairgrounds, seventh on the current three-eights mile configuration, and second since the track reopened this past May after sitting dormant since the conclusion of the 2012 racing season.
The NLRA is coming off a four race stretch, which started last Wednesday night at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, helping kick off the 121st Norman County Fair.
The stretch kicked off last Wednesday night, as heat winners Kevin Robertson, driver of the No. 10R Nugget Vending MasterSbilt and Adam Fischer, and his No. 30 Northwest Auto Body Rocket, lead the field to the green flag in the feature. Iron Ranger Jeffrey Massingill, driver of the No. 6M Tesar Racing Engines Club 29, got off to a great start on the bottom of the track, and lead the field into turn one from the third starting spot. Jeff Wildung of Nassau, MN picked up the NLRA series win Thursday night at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. Wildung took the lead on lap 10 after Brad Seng survived being struck by a lapped car a few laps prior. Wildung's win is his 13th career NLRA series triumph, tying him with Mitch Johnson for fifth on the all time list. its' also his second win at Norman County, the other coming in 2014, with his other eleven NLRA victories coming at the Viking Speedway. Dustin Strand finished second, with Seng, Jeremy Keller, and Don Shaw rounding out the top five. Seng's podium finish was more than enough to make him the fourth series point leader in five events so far this season. Seng will carry a 22 point lead over Shane Edginton into Friday nights' event at the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND. Zach Naastad, driver of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. Z17, won the NLRA season opener at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND Saturday night. Naastad became the 50th different driver to win an NLRA series feature, and is the second first time series winner in a row, as AJ Diemel won last September's 'Prelude to the Johnny' at the River Cities Speedway. Naastad's win didn't come easy, as he had to defend his lead on a number of restarts, and regain the lead on other restarts, as multiple caution periods, three of which were multi-car pileups, that plagued the main event.
Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, won his first race of the year at River Cities Speedway last Friday night. Mike Balcaen, winner at the Speedway two weeks prior crossed the line second in the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, with Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory rounding out the podium in third. Steffen Snare, driver of the No. 71 Todd's Electric Bloomquist finished fourth in his season debut, while two-time track champion Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom rounded out the top five.
The NLRA has released its' 2016 series schedule. The series 19th season features 19 rounds, starting on Saturday night, June the 11th at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND. The schedule also includes the return to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND on Friday night, June the 24th, and a second appearance in West Fargo on Sunday night, July the 17th alongside the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association. This is the first time the Upper Midwest's two premier racing series have met on the same night, and at the same track (away from River Cities) since June 10th, 2007, when Jeremy Keller and Jason Linnell were winners at the Nodak Speedway, in Minot, ND. It's also the fourth time in the history of the two series that they'll share the same dirt, the other two occurrences happened at the Norman County Raceway in 1998, and again in 2001.
The weather may have been brutally cold here, but the action was hot down south as the 10th annual Wild West Shootout at the USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona came to an end last Sunday night. The series of six events in nine nights produced results that may not surprise most race fans, but also some controversial incidents involving racers from our area. Don Shaw and Brad Seng picked up victories on Sunday during the series annual Labor Day Double Header events at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN on Sunday. Shaw's win was his second of the season, and third overall, while Seng kept his title hopes alive with his fifth series win of the season, and second at Viking. This marks the first time in series history that racers other than Jeff Wildung or Zach Johnson won races on Labor Day weekend in Alexandria, as the pair had won all but two labor day events at the big half mile since 2007.
