Many NLRA series regulars have remained active since the the final NLRA series event at the River Cities Speedway on September 5th. Many NLRA series regulars competed at the 42nd annual Stock Car Stampede at the Jamestown Speedway last weekend. Jeremy Keller of Mandan, ND drove his No. 11K to back-to-back victories at the Stampede. NLRA'ers that took part in the action at Jamestown included Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom, who followed up his second John Seitz Memorial victory with a fourth place run at the Stampede. Thursday - Doar Wins the Race; Strand Captures First NLRA Series Title Pat Doar raced from eighth to second in his heat race, started fourth in the feature and was the leader by lap four. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom reeled Doar in late in the event, but fell just short by .0134 of a second at the finish. Wisconsin natives AJ Diemel, Adam Hensel, and Chad Mahder rounded out the top five. Brent Larson, Steve Laursen, Jake Redetzke, Jeff Wildung, and John Kaanta rounded out the top ten respectively. Redetzke finished fourth in his B Main, and charged from the 26th starting spot to finish in the eighth spot. The 2013 NLRA series champion is set to be crowned Thursday night at the third annual 'Prelude to the Johnny' race. The NLRA is set to make its' third and final appearance at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. The race is also the third annual 'Prelude to the Johnny' race, the first of three straight race nights where they will pay tribute to the John Seitz. The four time NLRA champion won 26 features with the series, which is still tops on the series' all time wins list. Zach Johnson, driver of the No. 73 Midwest Grain Systems Pierce lead all 44 laps of the inaugural '4444' race at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The win was his fourth with the series in 2013, and his 11th overall, giving him sole possession of the fifth spot on the all time wins list with the NLRA. Heavy rain that claimed the opening night of NLRA series action at the speedway the night before made racing conditions difficult for the drivers, with only 12 finishing the race, and only ten completing all 44 laps of the main event. The NLRA's final road trip of the 2013 season features its' customary Labor Day double header at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN, this year featuring a new twist. Action will begin on Saturday night, August the 31st, with the series' 30th appearance on the Douglas County Fairgrounds half mile oval. On Sunday night, September the 1st, the series will take part in the speedway's inaugural '4444' race, where 26 drivers will have a chance to win $4,444 for winning the 44 lap main event. World of Outlaws Sprint Car Champion Donny Schatz, and NLRA series regular Bill Mooney captured NLRA series victories last weekend at the River Cities and Devils Lake Speedways. Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, Donny Schatz won his first NLRA series feature with a last lap pass on Joey Pederson. Schatz started second and took the point from pole sitter Brian Bernotas at the start. Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors Mars MB Custom passed Schatz for the lead on lap eight and held the lead until the leaders ran into heavy lap traffic with five to go. First on Thursday night, Kent Arment won his second career NLRA feature at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. The win was his first with the NLRA since June 26, 2004, when he won at the Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, SD during the series only visit to the speedway to this date. The main event got off to a rocky start with multiple cautions before a lap could be completed. Once action got underway, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71S Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium jumped out to the point and held the lead, including after restarts on laps seven, and twelve for Bill Mooney in the No. 2 freehearingtest.ca Rocket, and Brian Bernotas respectively. The championship picture could look a lot different this time next week, as the NLRA, and its' series regulars are set to embark on a three race swing in four nights. First on Thursday night the NLRA will make its' third and final appearance of the 2013 season to the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. Zach Johnson of Kensington, MN, and Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom have chalked up victories at the 3/8 mile oval this season. Seng will also be looking for his third series win in a row. Six drivers own top ten finishes in both previous events in Ada this season. Those drivers are Brad Seng, Zach Johnson, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71S Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 freehearingtest.ca Rocket, Donny Schatz, and Brian Bernotas. Racing begins Thursday Night at 7pm. The NLRA's Season continues Thursday night July the 18th when the NLRA makes it's second appearance this season, and its' tenth visit all-time to the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. Zach Johnson of Kensington, MN won the previous race at the 3/8 mile oval, dominating most of the main event. Dustin Strand, and his No. 71S Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium finished second, while Ricky Weiss settled for third. Brad Seng in the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom, and Donny Schatz rounded out the top five. Cody Skytland, Mike Balcaen in the No. 10 Northstar Canada Victory Circle, Bill Mooney in the No. 2 Freehearingtest.ca Rocket, Jeff Provinzino, and Brian Bernotas rounded out the top ten. Steve Anderson, driver of the No. 9 Hi-Per Flex Panel Systems Pierce, was the hard charger, finishing in the 13th position after starting the race in the 23rd spot. Racing begins at 7pm. |
